Eleanor Volunteer Spotlight

Volunteering: Behind the Scenes at the Museum

Meet Eleanor Hurd

When did you start working at TCHS? Why did you decide to Volunteer?

I started in 2002. I had recently retired, and was looking for something to do that would keep me busy. I saw an ad in the paper about volunteering at the museum, and I applied!

What do you do for TCHS? What is your favorite task here?

I do organizations in the collections department. The flood (of 2011) made a mess of our collection, so this isn’t the easiest thing to do. I also help with O Tannenbaum.

My favorite task is organizing the information for collections in our database on the computer.

Do you have a favorite memory from your volunteer work at TCHS?

I have lots of good memories. My favorite is O Tannenbaum after the flood. I liked seeing everyone coming back to the museum again.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

I like reading, doing crosswords, and doing puzzles.

Do you have any advice for someone considering becoming a volunteer?

Have an interest in history!
